ACTA and local communities - building human capacity on the frontiers of African conservation. Finding practical solutions to uphold Africa's biodiversity.
ACTA is a group of independent, professional conservationists who represent the breadth of African biodiversity knowledge. ACTA is a non profit training association with the aim to impart capacity for conservation through knowledge and skills to communities in Africa. These people are the guardians of the most unique habitats and wildlife on the Earth. ACTA consults on conservation and economic projects, develops environmental education programmes and joins a network of active conservators together in the initiative and spirit of problem solving and idea generation. Without local community recognition and support for nature conservation, biological diversity in Africa will collapse ACTA was formed to create conservation awareness, game ranger, tourism, small business enterprise and higher education training for citizens of Africa, particularly those living within and around Africa's unique protected and wildlife areas. ACTA has a strong and developed ability to accurately identify the full range of problems facing both communities of people and conservation of biological heritage in Africa. ACTA members are committed to conservation of biological diversity without hindering the rights for African people to gain education and to economic empowerment. ACTA trainers impart contemporary conservation knowledge to those who live on the last frontiers of wilderness in Africa by leaving the conventional classroom and training people at these actual frontiers, within their communities and work-places. Such training emphasizes local knowledge, employment and saves considerable donor resources. ACTA works with, recruits and monitors communities and training groups to maintain long term networks of information and continued learning. ACTA in partnership with its members, local communities, conservation groups, governments and donors, is working at the front-line to make a difference in conservation and community development in Africa. |
